Description
Product Introduction
ABB 07DI90-S is an 8-channel safety digital input module for ABB AC31 and Advant OCS (now Symphony Plus) systems. It adopts CS31 safety bus communication and is specially developed for safety-related applications, featuring high operational reliability and comprehensive diagnostic functions to meet strict requirements of industrial safety scenarios.
Model Explanation
07 represents the I/O product line of ABB AC31/90 series. DI stands for Digital Input. 90 is the base model code of the module. S means Safety, indicating the module is safety-certified with upgraded diagnostic performance.
Technical Parameters
This module is equipped with 8 digital input channels. The rated input voltage is 24 VDC, supporting both dry contact and active signal access. The typical input current is 6 mA per channel. It features 5 ms safety filtering and delayed response to prevent false triggering. It communicates via CS31 safety bus based on RS-485. The isolation voltage between channels and the bus is 500 VAC. The module is powered by 24 VDC, which can be supplied through the system bus or external power source. The operating temperature ranges from 0 ℃ to +55 ℃, and the storage temperature ranges from -25 ℃ to +75 ℃. The protection class is IP20. It is installed on standard 35 mm DIN rail. The overall dimensions are 120 mm in width, 140 mm in height and 85 mm in depth, and the weight is approximately 0.81 kg. The module has obtained CE, CSA, DNV, GL, ABS and RoHS certifications.
Interface and Communication Configuration
The terminal block includes 24 VDC power terminals L+ and M, 8 digital input terminals compatible with source and sink signals, as well as CS31 communication terminals A, B and GND. Multiple LED indicators are configured, including green RUN indicator for operating status, yellow COMM indicator for communication status, red FAIL indicator for safety and general faults, and yellow channel indicators from CH1 to CH8 to show real-time working status of each channel.
Core Functions
The module complies with IEC 61508 safety standards and is applicable to SIL2 and SIL3 safety loops. Built-in 5 ms safety filter effectively suppresses signal jitter and electromagnetic interference, which is suitable for emergency stop switches, safety gates and limit switches. It supports enhanced diagnosis, which can accurately detect short circuit, open circuit, bus communication failure and abnormal power supply of each independent channel. It is compatible with NPN, PNP sensors and dry contact switches for flexible wiring. It can be connected to redundant CS31 bus to satisfy the deployment demands of high-availability control systems.
Application Scenarios
It is widely used in safety instrumented systems for connecting emergency stop buttons, safety light curtains and limit switches. In power and energy industries, it serves for boiler safety circuits, turbine protection and ESD emergency shutdown systems. In chemical and oil & gas industries, it collects safety signals in hazardous areas from gas detectors and pressure switches. It is also applied to safety interlock control of robotic workstations, presses and machine tools in manufacturing industry.
Operation and Maintenance Instructions
Ensure reliable grounding for connected sensors and switches to reduce common-mode interference. The shield layer of CS31 communication cable shall be grounded at one end only. Enable safety diagnosis function and set channel fault threshold in AC31 controller during configuration. Regularly inspect the aging condition of contacts and sensors. Once a fault occurs, cut off the power first and check external wiring and 24 VDC power supply before inspecting the module itself.
